New S&P 500 Stocks, Retail Earnings on Deck, Energy Breakout, Industrials and My Hitlist

by | Mar 4, 2024

We don’t have any major reports this morning and stocks are opening mixed, but nothing crazy out of the ordinary.

Retail earnings are on deck this week but we are on the brink of getting through the season. Reports have been strong for the most part in the face of weaker expectations.

We have a lot of Fed data coming this week to keep an eye on, the biggest of which being comments from Fed Chair Jerome Powell at 10 a.m. ET on Thursday.

The Fed has also been hinting at keeping rates higher for longer. Right now, the market is pricing in a cut this summer. But if you look at recent comments, they’re not even mentioning 2024 anymore.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Powell pours even more cold water on rate cut talks when he speaks this week — I don’t believe we’ll get a cut until September, so let’s talk about it!

I’ll cover all that and more in this morning’s “Premarket Must Watch” video!
