How to Use Runners to Maximize Trade Profit Without Extra Risk

by | Jul 1, 2025

>>>Roger is out of town this week so Kane is filling in to host his VIP Trade Room. He is covering what’s so special about the first and last 30 minutes of each trading day, and how to come up with a weekly trading game plan starting at noon ET, so don’t be late!<<<

Most new traders think once they’ve closed a winning trade, it’s over. But that mindset leaves money on the table — and more importantly, leaves no room to let a position run when it’s working in your favor.

That’s where runners come in. And when used correctly, they let you stay in the trade without exposing yourself to additional risk.

What a Runner Is — and What It’s Not

A runner is a small remaining piece of your position that you leave open after you’ve already booked most of your gains. The idea is simple: Lock in your win, then give the trade a little room to keep going.

Here’s how it works in practice…

Let’s say you buy 100 shares of a stock at $100. When it hits $110, you sell 85 shares. You’ve just booked the bulk of your profit. Now, you leave 15 shares — your “runner” — in the trade. But you raise your stop to breakeven or better, often just under your entry price.

If the stock keeps running to $120, great — you’re making even more. If it pulls back and hits your stop, that’s fine too — you already locked in a win.

What a runner is not is a hope trade. If you didn’t already take a meaningful profit and secure the win, then you’re not running a position — you’re gambling.

Proper Sizing and Mindset

The key to using runners effectively is position size. In most cases, a runner should be 10% to 15% of the original trade. Anything more than that and you’re risking too much of your gains. Anything less and it’s probably not worth the mental bandwidth.

Also critical: the right mindset. Runners are about extracting maximum value after you’ve already won. They are not an excuse to overstay your welcome or chase a breakout that never materializes.

Used properly, runners give you upside without added risk. They let you participate in bigger moves while sticking to disciplined trade management. And over time, those extra gains — 2%, 5%, even 10% more — can add up to a serious performance boost.

In short: take your base hit, then keep a runner on base. That’s how you start stacking home runs.

P.S. This Wasn’t Supposed to Go Public Yet…

Look, I’ll be honest with you.

I never expected this.

When I started Trading Zone Live, I thought it would just be a small group of traders… quietly able to bank 28%… 51%… sometimes even 116% gains.

And we do this multiple times per day.

Granted, there were smaller wins and those that did not work out…

But something happened that caught me completely off guard.

A German institutional auditor reached out.

He’s been watching what we’re doing… studying our results… and he wants to see it with his own eyes.

So this week I got on a plane to Germany.

Here’s what’s crazy, though…

This auditor told me he’s never seen anything like what we’re pulling off in Trading Zone Live.

Three to five money-making opportunities every single day.

Gains that most traders dream about… happening in minutes… not months.

And the best part? None of this had to do with being on screen studying charts.

Just a quick “bzz bzz” on your phone… set the trade… and when things work out, watch the profits roll in.

The German auditor wants to verify everything in person because the numbers seem too good to be true.

But here’s the thing…

Before I have this whole thing “locked down” by institutions…

I want to give regular traders like you what could possibly be one final shot at this.

That’s why at noon ET on Monday, July 7, I’m going LIVE to show you exactly how Trading Zone Live works.

How we’re targeting these incredible gains.

And how you can get your hands on it before the institutional world potentially takes notice.

This might as well be the last chance regular traders get their hands on Trading Zone Live.

While I won’t be reckless enough to make any guarantees about the stock market because there’s no such thing as a guarantee in trading…

You Can Reserve Your Spot for Monday!

The profits and performance shown are not typical, we make no future earnings claims and you may lose money. From 4/14/25 – 5/30/25 the win rate has been 73.4% with an average return of 12.3% and an average hold time of less than 1 hour.
