VIX Watching: Why an Afternoon Spike Could Spell Trouble

by | Oct 3, 2024

Markets appear random this morning with very little downside or a meaningful move, and volatility is still barely moving despite geopolitical tensions…

In fact, volatility has been peaking early in the day and then falling back — if we don’t break the 20.40 level in the VIX, then odds are it’s going to break down further.

If you see it breaking higher around 1 to 3 p.m. ET in the afternoon, then that will be bad because most of the action’s been happening overnight.

This is really important with everything going on in the Middle East because if I see a spike in the VIX, then I know the market is about to fall.

Bonds, meanwhile, have been steadily falling since the Fed’s interest rate cut, and when the 10-year bond goes down, typically, interest rates go UP. That’s not good!

Gold is still above its eight-day exponential moving average…

I’ll cover all that, my daily hitlist of longs and shorts and more in this morning’s “Premarket Must Watch” video!

P.S. The Day I Stopped Guessing Market Direction

After 30 years in the markets, I thought I’d seen it all…

But what I stumbled upon a couple of months ago left me stunned…

Picture this… You placed a trade on Amazon, and 48 hours later, you’re up 90%.

And the surprising part is… you would’ve profited even if Amazon stock were to tank.

It’s all thanks to what I call the “Win-Both-Ways Trade.”

Granted, there would have been smaller wins and those that did not work out, but as far as I know, it’s the only type of trade that lets you target BIG gains without needing to worry if stocks soar or tank…

The best part?

It’s nothing like those complicated butterfly spreads or iron condors you might’ve heard about…
