Stocks are mixed heading into the final trading day of the week ahead of Good Friday, with tech stocks leading while the Dow is down over 600 points.
That’s not a random number for blue-chip stocks to be down so much. Now, this is very important…
When I say it’s not random, that means it’s going to take a lot for a reversal. If it’s up or down a small, random amount, then it can be fairly easily reversed. So that’s what I mean each time I say the numbers are or aren’t random.
Tech stocks, however, are up about 0.7% while the S&P 500 is up 0.4%. Now the question is which side will win the tug of war today…
Will blue chips win and sink everything? Or will tech win and its rising tide lift all boats? That’s what we’ll find out as the day goes on because that’s generally what happens when we have divergence like this.
So, what is the stinker in the Dow and the catalyst for tech today?
It’s actually a combination of two things: Trump says things are going well with Japan — which means absolutely nothing because this is what he always says. On top of that, we also have some good news for semiconductors, which was the stinker on Wednesday for tech.
So let’s take a close look at chips and more this morning after Taiwan Semiconductor (TSM) reported earnings after the close Wednesday — the stock is up 3.5% an hour before the open!
