Stocks are down big after Trump is back to threatening 25% tariffs on Apple (AAPL) if it doesn’t make iPhones in the U.S., as well as a 50% tariff on the European Union starting on June 1.
AAPL is down 3.6% premarket. Trump said Apple will have to pay the tariff if it doesn’t start producing iPhones here in the states.
Trump also is going to sign an executive order fast-tracking production of nuclear energy in the U.S. by easing regulatory demands. So while everything else is falling, nuclear stocks are surging upward of 20%.
The rest of the market, however, is not doing so great…
The Dow is down 560 points, the S&P 500 is down 1.5% and the Nasdaq 1.8% about an hour ahead of the open.
Retail is also taking a hit after Decker (DECK) and Ross (ROST) reported earnings.
Fed Chair Jerome Powell is also on deck to speak today, so this is anything but the usual sleepy Friday!
