Why I’m Ignoring the Tariff Talk — and You Should Too

by | Apr 29, 2025

>>>Behind all of the tariff news that’s upended markets, Roger’s been running his data software, and one stock is setting up for a brilliant month of May — join him at 1 PM ET today for that and more!<<<

Every time the word “tariff” hits the news cycle, you can practically hear algos tripping over themselves. Doesn’t matter if it’s the first headline or the fourth — if the buzzword pops, the bots react.

That’s just how this game works. But here’s the thing…

Most of these headlines are reruns. It’s the same story repackaged, designed to grab attention and trigger automated reactions. That doesn’t mean we ignore it entirely — it just means we’ve got to be smarter than the machines.

Understand the Real Triggers

We’ve seen this kind of price action before. Algorithms are listening for key phrases, not truth or context. If the same phrase — “tariff tensions with China” or “White House considering trade measures” — hits Bloomberg or CNBC a second or third time, it can still spark buying or selling pressure.

Even if it’s old news. Even if nothing’s changed.

So yes, tariffs can move the market. But you’ve got to know why they’re moving it — and whether the move actually matters. Because here’s what happens if you don’t…

You get whipsawed out of perfectly good trades by a headline you already saw yesterday. I guarantee you it’s happened to you before. You didn’t even realize it.

Don’t Overweight the Empty Threats

I’m not saying tariffs don’t matter. But let’s call this what it is — political posturing. If you’ve traded through a few election cycles, you’ve seen this movie before. And this one smells a lot like the “Mexican wall” playbook. Loud headlines. No follow-through. Just noise.

That’s why I’m not adjusting portfolios around tariff talk. I’m not overweighting fear in sectors like Tech (XLK) or Industrials (XLI) because of what might happen. If anything, I’m focused on what is happening — and right now, that’s a market normalizing under the surface. Volatility is easing. Earnings are back in focus. And traders are finally starting to care about fundamentals again.

Let the headlines fly. Let the algos chase ghosts. I’ll be right here — trading what’s real, not what’s loud.

P.S. See the Simple Daily Setup That’s Taking the World By Storm

Since its peak in February, the S&P 500 has lost around $11 trillion in value and has been struggling to recover.

And when we thought things couldn’t get any worse, the market hit its first Death Cross — Wall Street’s most dreaded bearish indicator — in three years.

But, while all these happened, a small group of traders had a chance to take the market to the cleaners.

Lance Ippolito’s shown regular folks how to leverage a hidden anomaly that has the power to pay out at the 4 p.m. ET market close.

Even better…

Since February, they’ve hit 28 out of 29 trades – that’s a 96% win rate taking simple options setups on one single ticker every day.

That’s why Lance and Jack Carter teamed up to reveal The 4PM Payout Plan.

Their goal? To show you how to take these daily setups every morning to collect a 4PM payout.

Naturally, no one can guarantee what the market does in the future…

But these simple daily options setups have paid out with the market rallying, dropping or staying flat.

And if you want to be one of the few to not just know the ropes behind these daily setups but also deploy them for yourself…
