Stocks are down big across the board heading into the final trading day to close out a tumultuous week before the Christmas holiday.
That means today is no time to be a hero, and it’s no time to try and bottom pick stocks you might think are “on sale.”
Sometimes, doing nothing is the best thing you can do because we could fall a whole lot further, especially with most institutional traders out for the holiday and volume likely to be very low.
It’s also quad witching day, with four different options expiration, which can cause even more volatility and plenty of monkey business.
We got the latest Personal Income and Outlays data this morning, and Consumer Sentiment, the latter of which is unlikely to move markets.
We’d like to see the bond market (TLT) trade above $88.50 today and a gap fill higher. That would be the first sign that what we’re seeing right now is shifting.
So again, don’t be a hero today — don’t think you can outsmart the market and pick lows. Don’t predict, but rather react to what’s happening.
