Catching Rebounds After Fed Speakers, and What Happens When Bonds Get Stuck in the Mud?

by | Oct 18, 2024

Netflix reported strong earnings after the close Thursday, popping over 6% this morning, which could give tech stocks a boost.

We have a bunch of Fed speakers on deck today, and here’s how to take advantage of this…

You’ll often see a stock moving up strongly, and then one of them says something, and then that same stock will suddenly sell off. When you see that, odds are, those stocks that were very strong will come right back up as soon as they’re done.

I do this all the time in our Trading Pit, and it’s a simple way to catch a rebound because strong stocks often stay strong.

Crude oil is still in this downtrend, but I’m only looking to short the weakest energy stocks. Bonds, meanwhile, couldn’t hold the 100-day moving average, but I’m hoping we’ll hold the current level because the next level down would be the 200 and the year-to-date VWAP.

I believe we’ll be stuck in this range for some time because we don’t have any real catalysts as far as Fed data coming in the immediate future.

Which means the stock market is likely to chop around…

I’ll cover all that, my daily hitlist of longs and shorts and more in this morning’s “Premarket Must Watch” video!
