What a week for earnings!
The order flow is about what you’d expect, even with the next FOMC minutes coming out Wednesday. But there’s one particular order I’m watching closely for today in an earnings play that looks pretty interesting.
Let me elaborate…
About a month ago, we saw a BIG buyer in the May 3 expiration, $90 strike calls in Starbucks (SBX), which is trading around $88.50 as of lunch time on the East Coast.
Those calls are down 50% since then, but here’s the interesting part…
They’re still being held in open interest, and the market makers are implying a $5.32 move higher or lower, well within range.
The Starbucks chart is, well… horrendous.
But that’s not exactly a bad thing!
Oftentimes, the worst looking stocks supply the biggest moves on earnings if there’s any hint of a surprise or big things to come because the market is forward-looking.
So I’ll have my eyes glued to the scanner for any SBUX orders that hit today for an earnings dice roll.
In the meantime, there’s a list of about 100 stocks an internal audit showed to be my most successful tickers I’ve traded in my programs.
And one of those tickers reports earnings after the close today: Advanced Micro Devices (AMD).
