The final trading day of 2024 is upon us… and things are going fairly slow as far as order flow.
Markets are relatively flat as of lunchtime on the East Coast, with the three major indexes all down slightly while the Russell 2000 was up on the day.
But here’s the thing about order flow…
Even on slow days, there’s usually at least a few plays that are worth a look.
And found among the usual bunch that includes names like Tesla (TSLA), Nvidia (NVDA), Broadcom (AVGO), MicroStrategy (MSTR) and more…
We saw a couple of long bets in a stock that’s taking a beating, down about 9% this afternoon…
SoundHound AI (SOUN). And while SOUN is getting taken behind the ol’ woodshed today, it’s had one helluva 2024…
Year to date into the final hours of trading in 2024, the stock is up a staggering 870%. The past three months, it’s up 340%, and about 128% the past month, even with today’s 9% dive.
Both of the bullish orders we’ve seen so far today are in Friday’s expiration in the $21 and $21.50 strike calls, with shares trading just under $21 and off the lows of the day.
As always, these weeklies can move fast, so trade small if at all. We could come back Thursday and they could easily be a double or a $0 when the market opens — or anything in between — after a holiday off.
Another idea would be to wait until Thursday and see which way the wind’s blowing after the market opens. If they’re up big, c’est la vie, on to the next trade. There’s always a chance they could open lower, even far lower, only to rise as the day goes on, especially if volume starts to pick up.
We also caught an earnings play in Schlumberger (SLB) late Monday January $38.50 calls. SLB reports on Jan. 17, and shares are trading just north of $38 today as SLB is up about 1%.
