The future of Luminar Technologies is looking a little brighter Thursday after announcing a deal to provide the luxury carmaker with its cutting-edge lidar sensors and software.
Lidar is one of the cornerstone technologies needed for self-driving cars, letting the computer “see” where a vehicle is going. And Wall Street likes what it sees — the news helped catapult Luminar shares as much as 24.5% from Wednesday’s closing price!
Meanwhile, institutional buyers grabbed options plays by the firstful, with more than 17,500 contracts of the Jan. 28 $16 strike calls changing hands Thursday!
